Dear Friend,
If you have ever prayed for a Catholic priest or wished you could do more to assist our beloved priests who are experiencing difficulties, you now have the opportunity to reach out and offer a helping hand.
Men of Melchizedek (MOM) was formed in response to Catholic priests, bishops and Vatican officials who request urgent, confidential assistance in finding solutions to the proper care and treatment of priests in need. We are available to priests facing emergencies in their personal lives or priestly ministries 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The mission of Men of Melchizedek is to facilitate assistance to Catholic clergy experiencing difficulties in complete accordance with the authentic teaching of the Church and of the Holy Father and his predecessors.
When it comes to accusations, as you know, it is true that not every priest is innocent, but it is equally true that not every priest is guilty. If a priest is guilty, but repentant and seeking our help for healing and renewal, like The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) who Jesus calls us to forgive, we are the first to help him in his desire to grow in holiness. If a priest is innocent, we want to be the first to come to his defense.
In both cases, we believe our dear Mary, Mother of Priests, is calling all of us to non-judgmental love and assistance to Her wounded and suffering priest-sons. Our mission is not about enabling. That would be a travesty of justice to those authentic victims who have truly experienced abuse at the hands of a greatly disturbed priest, which in a very few cases was even criminal. Rather our mission is about authentic witness and prudential support for Catholic priests. And, what mother wouldn’t remember those who helped her sons in their most desperate hour?
Because of the threatening and dreadful reality that every Catholic priest today is vulnerable to allegations that can be made against him, even from decades ago – true or false – we at MOM are quite literally overwhelmed with urgent requests for help. Without your prayerful support, we will not be able to answer all the desperate requests from these anguished priests – some of whom will literally be destitute and living in abject poverty.
The need for this ministry, to priests often alone, abandoned and feeling utterly hopeless, is absolutely urgent!
We accomplish our mission through our network of experts in Canon law, criminal/civil law, mental health, finance and spirituality.
MOM offers non-judgmental support and life-time accompaniment for the priests we serve who are in need, at times in a state of grave crisis, including ill, elderly, frail Catholic priests who do not receive Social Security benefits and have no pension from their diocese or financial support.
Many priests in active ministry who are experiencing vocational crisis, burn-out, relationship difficulties with their bishops or superiors, pastors, parishioners, gambling, drug and alcohol addiction, depression, loneliness or fear, also turn to Men of Melchizedek for confidential life-saving help.
With heartfelt gratitude for their many sacrifices, for the selfless spiritual and pastoral service our priests provide to us, we thank you for your prayerful support for the many priests we assist, who are in such urgent need, and often in hopeless situations.
We assure you of our prayers for you during this painful time of need in the lives of so many of our vulnerable, hurting, grief-stricken priests who often have no one else to turn to for guidance, direction and support but to MOM!
Sincerely in the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ the High Priest,
Joseph R. Maher, KCHS
President
